Anti-Abortion Protestors Waylay Lord Steel
by Louise Hosie
PROTESTERS from the Scottish Reformation Movement
converged outside the General Assembly of
the Church of Scotland yesterday, to voice
their opposition to abortion.
The General
Assembly’s Lord High Commissioner, David
Steel, was confronted by Pastor Jack Glass
of Glasgow’s Zion Baptist Church, as he left
the Assembly at lunchtime
It was former
Scottish Parliament presiding officer, Lord
Steel, who, as a Liberal MP, piloted the
UK’s abortion legislation through Parliament
in the 1960s.
Mr Glass said: “I saw David
Steel, and asked him how he could live with
himself after the bill he put through, which
means innocent children are being put to
death. He looked quite stunned and didn’t
answer me. These children have a right, and
we are standing up for that. They do not
have a voice, but we do. We do not want to
be bigoted or spread any hatred - we are
just standing our ground.”
