Billy Connolly's crown of thorns
Bible Reading: Mark 15 :17-20
Today we see Jesus again in the guard room as
an object of contemptuous jest, only on this
occasion it is in Connolly's guard room where
he and his ribald supporters in derision crown
the Saviour and mock His crown, claim and clothes.
In his skit on the crucifixion of Christ, Connolly
does just that to the pleasure of his audience.

Gethsemane
Jesus suffered physically and spiritually on
the cross. I am not depreciating the great sufferings
of Calvary; but I also believe that the active
obedience as well as the passive obedience of
Christ has merit. By the active obedience of
Christ he worked out a perfect imputed righteousness
for me, and by his passive obedience he satisfied,
as my substitute, the demands of the broken law
of God. Yes, the life as well as the death of
Jesus has merit. It was suffering for Jesus to
mingle with sinful men, and also to kneel in
Gethsemane and sweat as it were great drops of
blood. By thy sufferings known and unknown, good
Lord, deliver us.

It is well with Leah
The following sermon was preached by Pastor
Jack Glass on Wednesday 8th July, 1981 at the
funeral of Leah McDermott age 9 who was the daughter
of John and Joan McDermott. Leah was a spina
bifida child, greatly loved by many and this
love was evident in the large attendance at her
funeral.

Rest for the restless ones
Matthew 11: 28-30
We live in a day of religious,
moral and political anarchy. A day of godless
Ecumenism, sexual permissiveness, and terrorism.
A day of men's hearts failing them because of
fear, and suicide caused by chronic depression
and dissatisfaction. Obviously the new theology
and the new morality have failed to meet the
deep aching void in the heart of man. God has
made us for himself and our hearts are restless
until they find their rest in him. Above the
voices calling us to drunkenness to indulge the
flesh, to take a drug trip, and to opt out of
society comes the voice of Jesus saying I WILL
GIVE YOU REST.

Silver wings and Golden Pots
Psalm 68 v.13
Some say that the background to this text is
as follows: David, when walking one day through
the streets of Jerusalem, saw in a shop a cage
containing a beautiful bird. His heart went
out to this beautiful creature trapped in captivity,
and he recalled how his own nation had once
been held in bondage in Egypt as slaves or
scullions among the pots.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Gen 9:12-16
Noah was building the ark and as
he built, the ungodly of that day mocked him.
Then one day, God told Noah to get into the ark.
Noah entered and we read God shut him in. For
years Noah had faithfully preached the truth
to these people but now the day of grace was
ended. Some shouted abuse at Noah in the ark,
some laughed but others did not know what to
make of the situation. Suddenly, someone screamed,
for over the horizon they saw a cloud. It began
to rain.

The prayer meeting you must not attend
Rev 6:12-17
Our scripture reading describes
a prayer meeting you must try and avoid at all
costs. Let me plead with you not to attend this
meeting. I know in these days of apostasy and
backsliding I should be urging people to attend
prayer meetings but please do not attend this
one. For this one will possibly be the last on
earth and it does not have the blessing of God
but the curse of God upon it.

Three important questions
I want to bring to your attention three important
questions which are all found in the book of
Exodus. The first is in Exodus chapter 5 verse
2 "And Pharaoh said WHO IS THE LORD THAT
I SHOULD OBEY HIS VOICE". The second question
is this and it is found in Exodus chapter three
verse eleven WHO AM I? Man like MacBeth in the
Shakespearian play sums up his existence in these
words. Finally We come to our last question found
this time in Exodus 32:26 WHO IS ON THE LORD'S
SIDE?

What is faith?
ACTS 16:31 Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ,
and thou shalt be saved.
What is faith? Faith
is not a thing upon which the sinner rests, it
is his resting on the object of his faith Christ.
We must not trust in the act of faith but in
Jesus Christ. That is we must not believe in
our faith but as I have said in the object of
faith Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.

Wonderful Jesus
Isaiah 9:6
When one speaks of Jesus Christ, one does not
know where to begin or where to end. One paddles
in the shallows as a great ocean of truth lies
undiscovered. Christ is the incomparable Christ.
Let us examine our wonderful Lord.
